VILLA GARDEN - WASSENAAR
This forest villa garden in Wassenaar was jaded and lacking in character and was due for a redesign that does justice to the stately villa, which has been completely transformed on the outside and inside.
In the existing design, a large part of the front garden was paved as a roundabout surrounded by pollard plane trees
In the design it was decided to give the side entrance of the house a stronger green garden atmosphere while retaining sufficient parking space. This also emphasized the main entrance more heavily by picking up an axis from the front door into the front garden. The entrance garden is enclosed by two monumental pergolas and by a group of six replanted plane trees, as a counterpart to the existing outbuilding.
The backyard atmosphere is characterised by a wooded estate, groups of trees, open space and large solitary trees. The house has a spacious terrace in different levels to bridge the height difference between ground floor and ground level. In this way a multifunctional terrass cluster is created which is divided by a long low yew hedge in line with the house.
This axis is framed halfway through the backyard by a spacious staircase with plants on both sides with a view of the water features of the neighbouring estate behind.
